Modular bot will be the new dimension in the field of Robotics. Unlike the conventional scheme of robots, the modular bots are cube and without any external moving part. Researchers behind the discovery have named each as M-Block. Scientists of MIT, John Romanishin, Daniela Rus and postdoc Kyle Gilpin are going to present a paper describing their new robots at the IEEE/RSJ International Conference on Intelligent Robots and Systems.

Resurrection of Old CDs into Wastewater Treatment Technology
Researchers from National Taiwan University, National Applied Research Laboratories in Taiwan, and the Research Center for Applied Sciences in Taiwan have come up with an innovative idea of resurrecting the old CDs and giving them life by employing them in breaking down sewage. Instead of going into e-waste, the team has developed a very practical application of the obsolete thing. As per the stats, 20 billion compact disks are manufactured every year plus the extensive collection of people that has now superseded by the advent of MP3 files and iPods.…
Read MoreHeralding Futurism
If we look around we’d see, we are heralding the futurism already. We are surrounded with technology; imagine a place where there’ll be no such thing as tech know-how and gadgets. We’d then be living in Pandora minus the Unobtainium and the gravity of course. We as humanity have reached great heights. First, we created a horse called technology and then rode over it to reach places where we could satiate our thirst for curiosity. For instance, we have delved into the ocean to discover the oceanic life support system…
Read MoreBartending Robot Comes To Punters Rescue
Punters don’t have to wait for long or have to push their counterparts just to take a pint of beer or alcohol. James is going to play safe, fast and much more fairly. With its tablet computer head and one-armed metal body, it is waiting behind the bar to take your orders. Yes, you guessed it right, James is the new Barman, created by the Joint Action in Multimodal Embodied Systems programme. Just by scanning the body language of its customers, James ‘decides’ who to serve first.

After the robo snakes, the European Space Agency (ESA) has come up with their innovative idea of launching CO2 powered hopping rocketbots that’ll forage fuel from the Martian atmosphere. Power density has always played a major role in launching rockets especially when the chemical reactions take place. This is one of the reasons, why gasoline is employed in automobiles but the case is different with respect to rockets. While pushing satellites off from Earth, rockets require huge power, which sucks massive amount of fuel, and the same – although not…
Read MoreTextureCam, An Add-on For Bots In Decision Making
NASA’s Mars rover Curiosity is extraordinarily smart. Its autonomous navigation system includes driving, digging, shoveling, and even shooting lasers. However, the next gen bots are a step higher and are extremely tuned in. With their advanced computer and camera systems, they are able to identify locations and geographies that are interesting enough to yield important scientific discoveries. Self-autonomous robots and human machine interaction are one of the major areas, which are undergoing research in Robotics. And Curiosity includes both the paradigms. Human engineer at Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL) directs it…
Read MoreSpider Now A Nano Tech Provider
The headline sounds a li’l weird but ‘tis true. Electronic wastes and environmental pollution have created demands for innovative solutions. Eco-friendly electronic designs have come to the forefront to combat the problem created by the non-biodegradable plastics. But toxicity again posed a problem. Therefore, the assimilation of natural elements in these designs became mandatory to do away with the poisonous materials. Hence, Scientists at the National High Magnetic Field Laboratory in Tallahassee, Fla are trying to make it a reality. They have come up with a conclusion, which asserts that…
Read MoreHuman Transport Via Pods
Ever wondered how it would be travelling in a tube, quite similar to pneumatic tubes that are used for sending mail and packages within and between buildings. Weird but quite thrilling, I know. It’s nowhere near to another ‘cube’ or ‘hypercube’ movie, it is a real world transportation concept, brainchild of Elon Musk, The Stark of our real world. He has named it the ‘Hyperloop’. As mentioned earlier, the system would be like pneumatic tube but connecting cities, which would nearly be 400 miles (643 kilometers) apart, that is, Los…

In order to speed up the training process in robots and their adaptation in complex functions, researchers of five European Universities have come up with Rapyuta, the RoboEarth Cloud Engine, an open source Platform-as-a-Service (PaaS) framework. The platform facilitates bots to gain access to the massive computational, storage and communications infrastructure of modern data centers by connecting directly via internet. The Platform-as-a-Service (PaaS) also aids the bots in performing complex tasks such as mapping, navigation or processing of human voice commands in the cloud. It will also allow the machines…
Read MoreUnleashing An Uncontrollable Force by Killer Bots
With the advent of fully autonomous weapons called the “killer bots”, the question of losing humanity is at stake. Since, technology is taking giant steps towards high-tech military capabilities, the nations across the globe are moving towards techniques that provide better combat autonomy by integrating these self-governing machines. Technologically it’s not difficult to morph controllers from humans to fully autonomous systems but a bot can never empathize with a mortal being and hence would definitely pose a threat to global sustainability. Robo weapons The robotic weapons are divided into three…
